Orchid Care Guide

Caring for orchids

We often get asked, "how do I care for orchids"? The truth is, orchid care is not difficult; it is just different.

These plants prefer bright, indirect light. Insufficient light results in poor flowering. However, too much light can lead to leaf burn.

Orchids should be planted in fast-draining soil. Using moss-based or bark-based potting mix is suggested. Depending on which you choose, the orchid care will vary. The bark-based mix allows the water to drain quickly, so you will need to water your orchid more frequently. The moss mix retains more water, so you can go longer between waterings.

Fertilizer is essential for promoting reblooming in your orchid. You’ll need to feed the plant by fertilizing it with a balanced houseplant fertilizer (20-20-20) either weekly or monthly.

Here are the main requirements for proper orchid care

  • Most orchids require water once a week. Avoid over watering as this can lead to root rot.
  • Position your orchid in a bright windowsill
  • Weekly or monthly feeding with a fertilizer designed for orchids
  • Repotting when your orchid stops blooming.

Enjoy your lovely orchid!
