The Prunus dulcis, commonly known as the Almond Tree, is a beautiful deciduous tree closely related to peaches and cherries. It is highly celebrated for its spectacular explosion of fragrant pink or white blossoms in early spring, followed by its iconic nut crop. While naturally a medium-sized outdoor tree, dwarf varieties can be grown in large containers on sunny patios or in spacious, bright sunrooms.
☀️ Light: Full sun. This tree requires intense, direct sunlight to thrive, develop blossoms, and produce fruit. It needs at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sun daily and is not suited for standard indoor rooms without exceptional light.
💧 Water: Moderate. Water thoroughly when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. While established almond trees are relatively drought-tolerant in the ground, container-grown trees require consistent moisture, though they are highly sensitive to waterlogged soil.
🌡️ Temperature: Warm with a cool winter. It thrives in hot, dry summers but requires a specific period of winter chill (temperatures below 7°C) to break dormancy and trigger spring blooming. Protect the delicate spring blossoms from late hard frosts.
