The small hot cherry pepper (known in Italy as peperone ciliegia piccante or cerasella) is a small, round chili pepper shaped like a cherry. It features a bright red color when ripe, thick and crunchy flesh, and a moderately spicy flavor that makes it extremely popular for preserves. In Italian culinary traditions, it is very commonly stuffed with ingredients like tuna, capers, or anchovies, preserved in oil, and served as an appetizer or side dish.

  • 🌱 Sowing (in a protected seedbed): from February to March (in a warm environment, around 20-25°C).
  • ☀️ Transplanting (outdoors or in pots): in May, when nighttime temperatures are stable and mild (the plants suffer in the cold).
  • 🌿 Exposure: in full Sun ☀️ to ensure optimal growth and good spiciness.
  • 💧 Watering: regular but moderate, avoiding water stagnation (let the soil dry out slightly between waterings).
  • ✂️ Harvesting: from July to October, when the peppers reach a bright, vibrant red color.
