The Peperone Quadrato d'Asti Rosso (Red Square Pepper from Asti) is a famous traditional Italian heirloom variety originating from Piedmont. It is characterized by large, heavy fruits with a distinct square, 3-to-4 lobed shape (tetralobated), deep grooves, and a thick, fleshy pericarp (7–8 mm),

  • 🌱 Sowing: from February to March in a protected seedbed or warm greenhouse (around 20–25°C).
  • ☀️ Exposure: in full Sun ☀️, as it requires high temperatures and direct sunlight to grow vigorously and develop its deep red coloration.
  • 💧 Watering: regular and constant throughout the growing season, avoiding water stagnation while keeping the soil adequately moist.
  • 🌿 Soil & Care: fertile, deep, and well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Plants are vigorous and productive, so spacing them about 50–80 cm apart with proper support stakes is recommended due to the heavy weight of the large fruits.
  • ✂️ Harvesting: from July to October, picking them manually as they start turning red or reach full maturity.
  • ❄️ End of Cycle: annual summer-to-autumn crop that finishes producing as cold autumn weather arrives.
