The Zucca Lunga di Napoli (Long Naples Pumpkin) is a traditional Italian winter squash variety known for its elongated, cylindrical shape that often curves and widens slightly toward the bottom. It features a smooth, dark green rind with subtle lighter spots or stripes, while its deep orange flesh is firm, sweet, and low in water content

  • 🌱 Sowing: from April to May (in a protected seedbed at around 20-22°C, or directly outdoors once the danger of spring frost has passed and the soil is warm).
  • ☀️ Exposure: in full Sun ☀️, as it needs plenty of direct sunlight and warmth to thrive and develop its full sweetness.
  • 💧 Watering: regular and generous during the growth and flowering phases, avoiding wetting the leaves and reducing water as the fruits near maturity.
  • 🌿 Soil & Care: deep, fertile, and well-draining soil rich in organic matter (compost or manure). The plant requires plenty of space to sprawl its long vines, or it can be trained vertically onto sturdy trellises.
  • ✂️ Harvesting: from September to October (late summer to autumn). Leave the pumpkin on the vine until the stem begins to dry and cork, and the rind hardens. Cut it with a short piece of the stem attached.
  • ❄️ Storage: After harvesting, let them cure in the sun for a few days.
