The Sugar Baby water melon is one of the most popular small, round (icebox) watermelon varieties. It features a dark green rind with subtle dark stripes and crisp, intensely sweet, deep red flesh.
🌱 Sowing: from April to May (in a protected seedbed at 20-25°C, or directly outdoors once all risks of frost have passed and soil temperatures warm up).☀️ Exposure: in full Sun ☀️, requiring maximum warmth and direct sunlight to develop its high sugar content and sweet flavor.💧 Watering: regular and deep during the growth phase, but reduced as the fruit nears ripening to prevent splitting and improve sweetness. Avoid wetting the leaves to protect against fungal issues.🌿 Soil & Care: fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Provide adequate space for the vines to spread, or train them if space is limited.✂️ Harvesting: from July to September, typically determined by checking the dull sound when thumped, the drying of the tendril closest to the fruit stem, and the yellowish ground spot where the melon rests on the soil.❄️ End of Cycle: annual summer crop that finishes its production cycle with the arrival of autumn temperatures.
