Ġnien il-Larinġ — Ħal Lija

Ġnien il-Larinġ — Ħal Lija

Ġnien il-Larinġ is a 750 m² public garden in Ħal Lija, transformed from a previously inaccessible site into a welcoming green space for the local community.

As the contractors for the project, Derek Garden Centre delivered the works from site preparation through to the completed garden, bringing together construction, hard landscaping, planting, irrigation and finishing works.

The transformation included the removal of approximately 15 tonnes of waste, the construction of accessible pathways, seating and reading areas, and a loggia with sanitary facilities.

The project reflects Ħal Lija's strong connection with citrus trees, with 25 new citrus trees added alongside existing trees.

Around 900 plants and shrubs were introduced throughout the garden, including aromatic species such as lavender, rosemary, sage and thyme, creating a landscape rich in colour, texture and fragrance.

Historic wells on the site were also restored, while natural materials and sensory pathways were incorporated into the garden. A traditional-style iron fence adds another connection to the character of the surrounding Maltese village.
