At Derek Garden, we were honored to lead a comprehensive renovation project at the Ministry of Education facilities in Floriana . Our goal was to completely transform an outdoor space using modern, functional, and sustainable solutions.

Project Scope:

Demolition and site preparation: Removal of all old tiles and dismantling of existing structures.

New concrete base: Laying of a concrete slab with carefully designed slopes to ensure proper drainage.

Waterproofing: Installation of a waterproof membrane over the entire surface to protect against water infiltration and ensure efficient water runoff.

Sustainable drainage system: Construction of a common underground drainage system connected to a water collection reservoir for responsible and eco-friendly rainwater management.

Various types of paving:

Raised flooring
Wooden decking
Artificial turf

Architectural and landscaping features:

Elevated planters
Vertical green walls
Decorative water feature
Timber slatted canopy

Automated irrigation system: Fully automatic irrigation installed to facilitate maintenance of all green areas.

Specialized materials: Use of waterproof and anti-rot products inside the planters to ensure durability and long-lasting performance.

Ministry of Education - Renovation Project

Derek Garden completed a comprehensive renovation at the Ministry of Education in Floriana, including demolition, installation of a new concrete base with efficient drainage, waterproofing with membrane, various types of paving, a sustainable underground drainage system, elevated planters, green walls, a water feature, timber canopy, and an automatic irrigation system. This project combines functionality, sustainability, and design to fully transform the outdoor space.

Green Festival - Infiorata 2025

Since 2022 we have been responsible for the landscaping of the Valletta Green Festival, transforming St George’s Square into a vibrant urban garden each spring. Through carefully designed planting and pathways, we help bring sustainability and nature into the heart of Malta’s capital.

Lumi Project - Voco

For Lumi, the new restaurant at Voco, we supplied, transported, and installed lemon trees and various outdoor plants to create a fresh, welcoming terrace environment. Despite the challenge of working on a high floor, our team successfully delivered a lush and inviting green space, adding natural character and enhancing the overall guest experience.

Built-In Green Spaces

We designed and implemented the soft landscaping at the building entrance. Our scope included only the planting design – no paving or architectural work. The result is a clean, welcoming green space that enhances the entrance without altering existing structures.

Animal paddock

Derek Garden proudly delivered the development of a new animal enclosure, designed to promote animal welfare in a thoughtfully landscaped environment. Our work included the construction of civil infrastructure, green spaces, public structures, and urban furniture, all carefully integrated to enhance visitor experience and environmental harmony.

Chinese Park

Our team was responsible for the natural landscaping works at Chinese Park, focusing on the development of sustainable green areas that enhance the park’s oriental-inspired design.

The Green Curve

A modern green intervention in the heart of San Julian’s, this project blends native plants, sustainable design, and Mediterranean character to create a calm, elegant urban garden that enhances both nature and architecture.

Green festival - Infiorata 2024

We helped green up St George’s Square with over 18,000 plants! Visitors enjoyed games, planting fun, and discount vouchers. A celebration of nature in the city.

Mediterranean Film Festival

We transformed the Mediterranean Film Festival into a stunning fusion of nature and cinema, creating an immersive space that celebrates art, creativity, and beauty.
