Simar: Nature Restored

Simar: Nature Restored

At Derek Garden Centre, we specialise in landscaping projects that demand technical precision and deep environmental respect. Our latest major undertaking involved the complete rehabilitation of a 4,000-square-metre site adjacent to the Simar Nature Reserve in St Paul’s Bay.

What was once an illegal dumping ground has been professionally transformed by our team into a high-value public space that serves as a vital buffer for the neighboring Natura 2000 site.

Our Expert Landscape Interventions:

  • Ecological Landscaping: We selected and planted indigenous species specifically adapted to the reserve's unique ecosystem, supported by a bespoke, sustainable irrigation system.
  • Sustainable Drainage (SuDS): Our team engineered and constructed pathways and ramps designed to be fully permeable, allowing natural water runoff to replenish the ground rather than pooling or eroding the site.
  • Eco-Friendly Infrastructure: We installed durable outdoor furniture crafted entirely from recycled materials, including picnic benches and recycling stations.
  • Site Security & Boundary Works: To prevent future illegal tipping, we constructed integrated boundary walls, gates, and fencing that provide security without disrupting the natural aesthetic.
  • Sensitive Environment Protocols: In strict coastline compliance with Natura 2000 regulations, we ensured the project maintained zero light pollution to protect the delicate local biodiversity and bird populations.

This project is a testament to our ability to manage complex, large-scale environmental restorations. We are proud to have been the lead landscaping contractors responsible for returning this sensitive ecosystem to the public.
