Misraħ il-Karmelitani Garden, Żurrieq

At Derek Garden Centre, we are proud to have partnered with Project Green and the Ministry to deliver the complete transformation of Misraħ il-Karmelitani Garden in Żurrieq. This project is a prime example of our capability to execute large-scale, complex urban greening initiatives from inception to completion.

What was once a 1,150-square-metre patch of asphalt has been completely revitalised into a vibrant, sustainable, and eco-friendly green lung for the local community.

Our Scope of Work

As the main landscape and civil contractor for this project, our team managed and executed 100% of the works. We proved our capability to handle heavy structural engineering alongside delicate environmental design, managing the entire process under one roof:

• Excavation & Site Preparation: Complete removal of the existing asphalt and ground excavation to prepare the foundations for a sustainable urban infrastructure.
• Civil & Structural Works: Construction of the park's structural elements, pathways, and the installation of essential water catchment systems to ensure sustainable irrigation.
• Civil Restoration: Careful integration and presentation of local heritage features, including the historic Maltese luzzu boat integrated into the park's layout.
• Soft Landscaping & Planting: Selection, transport, and planting of 40 mature trees and over 1,600 shrubs and endemic bushes, creating an instant canopy and promoting biodiversity.

Sustainability & Community Impact

Designed with the future in mind, Misraħ il-Karmelitani Garden incorporates sustainable water management practices to reduce the carbon footprint and ensure the longevity of the flora. It now stands as a safe, accessible, and beautiful open space for families and residents of Żurrieq.
